Over time dirt collects in the cracks in the canvas

After the canvas has been cleaned and surface dirt removed

Water damage has caused the canvas to stretch, causing this 'pocking' effect. We can also see water damage around the Lunette's frame

Over time, dirt has accumulated on the surface of the lunette, making Walter Crane's work difficult to see
After the dirt has been removed, it is far easier to appreciate Crane's artistry
